Melinda is looking over a map of Barrington when she hears Greg let himself into the house.
"Melinda! Where are you? You ready?" he calls from the front hallway.
"I'm in the kitchen!" she yells back. She turns in her chair and sees him walk in. He is jingling his keys in his pocket.
     "You ready?" he repeats.
"Actually…" She hesitates. "I'm not going tonight, Greg."
He looks stunned. "What? Why not? This is important stuff, Melinda. You can't miss a night!"
She shakes her head and puts a hand down on the map. "I've found something," she says softly. "And I have to go out tonight and see if I found what I think I found…"
"You found your father?" he asks, his eyes wide. A happy smile is forming on his face.
She grins in return. "I'm not sure yet, but I have an amazing lead. And I can't wait until tomorrow to go following it."
He sits down next to her and takes her hand in his. "I want to come with you, Melinda."
She looks into his eyes and sees that he is sincere. She melts a little at the realization. 'He really cares,' she thinks.
But she shakes her head no. "I think this is something I need to do on my own, Greg. Besides, I'll need you to tell Way-Dr. Tithing where I am," she says, stumbling over Wayne's name.
Greg doesn't appear to notice. "I understand, Melinda," he says, squeezing her hand. "Call me the minute you find out anything, ok?"
She nods and stands up. "I'll do that."
He reaches over and kisses her softly on the lips. "Good luck, sweetheart," he says quietly, his arms around her still. She feels his warm breath touch her ear. She pulls back rather quickly. It reminds her too much of the time she said goodbye to Wayne behind the church. And she doesn't want to be reminded of that just now…
"You'd better get going, Greg. You're going to be late," she says hurriedly.
"Yeah, you're right," he responds. He starts jingling his keys in his pocket again. "Don't forget to call me!"
"I won't, don't worry," she says, an excited smile on her face.
