She awakens on the couch a few hours later. Confused, she rubs her swollen eyes and looks out the window for an indication of the time. It is dark. She sits up and breathes a heavy, wobbly sigh. For those hours while she slept she had forgotten… She bites her lower lip and squeezes her eyes shut.
Sleepily, she makes her way into the kitchen, her eyes on the blurry digital numbers that light up the front of the microwave. When they come into focus, she blinks a few times to make sure she isn't dreaming. The display reads 4:20 in the morning. She had slept longer than she thought. "There's no point going to bed now,' she thinks. 'I'll have to find something else to do…'
And that's when she remembers the precious piece of paper hiding in her pocket. She takes it out and re-reads the already familiar words printed neatly on the page. She nods slightly, and folds the paper and stuffs it back into her pocket. Today would be the day she would finally see her father again after so many long years…
She goes into the bathroom to run herself a hot bath, all the while willing the clock to speed up. It wouldn't be long before she would be face to face with the father she had lost so long ago.
