Melinda arrives home and immediately calls to Greg when she walks in the door.
"Greg?! I have some news!!!" she calls out excitedly.
She waits, listening for a response but doesn't hear one right away. She frowns and calls out again. "Greg?"
"I'm in the living room," he responds. His voice sounds distant. Her face lights up with a smile the instant she hears him.
"Greg!! I have the most amazing news-" She stops suddenly, noticing that he isn't smiling back at her. He sits on the couch, looking down at his hands, a sad frown on his face. "Greg? Is there something wrong?" she asks, concerned.
He looks up at her but doesn't say anything. The expression on his face troubles her. He looks sad and defeated.
"How long have you been seeing him, Melinda?" he asks quietly. He looks up at her. He looks pained.
She frowns and shakes her head. "I don't know what you mean, Greg," she says softly.
He sighs and looks back down at his hands, studying them for what feels like ages.
"Dr. Tithing. How long have you been seeing him behind my back?"
She sits down next to him with a soft thud, stunned by his words. She shakes her head. "I don't know what to say, Greg. There is nothing going on between us-"
He interrupts her. "It was him wasn't it? The man you didn't think you could get over when we met? Did you think I wouldn't find out?"
He looks wounded. She winces inwardly at his reaction.
"There's nothing going on between us, Greg… Not anymore," she says.
He is silent for a long time. Then, he looks up at her, the hurt clearly etched on his face. "I saw you get into the car with him. I saw you hug him. Melinda… I don't know if I can believe that there is nothing going on," he says. Before she can defend herself, he begins speaking again. "It all makes sense now. I've seen you looking at him, and I've seen him looking at you… They weren't just looks. There was more to them. I didn't put two and two together but I see it now. Those times when I caught the two of you alone talking together, and when you saw me you looked guilty…" He shakes his head and runs his fingers through his hair.
