He squeezes her close and sighs. "Well I suppose I'd better get back to unpacking," he says, getting up and brushing leaves off his pants. "Mind if I order a pizza?"
She shakes her head, grinning. "Go ahead. I could go for some myself."
"Great!" he says, obviously very enthusiastic over his coming dinner. He bends down and gives her a quick kiss on her cheek. "I'll take a twenty from your purse," he says, a broad grin on his face.
She laughs and watches him run inside.
'He's no Wayne…'
The thought hits her suddenly and with such force that she winces. She rubs her fingers over her temples as if that will make the thought go away. So much had changed since she had seen him last. There were times when each minute was a constant struggle not to think about what had happened. She had even gone so far as selling her childhood home in order to escape the memories it held. But she had been making progress. She had even begun making friends at the University, going out with them on the weekends and meeting them after class for study sessions. Buying her new home and been another step in her healing process.
But just when she thought she was letting go of the past for good, Wayne's face would creep back up in her mind.
She sees the pizza man pull up in a rickety car and reluctantly stands up. She has been sitting and thinking for too long. She goes inside to tell Greg that his dinner is served.
