Before she knows it, it is over. She finds herself standing at the back of the church, Wayne by her side, thanking people for coming. Soon all that is left is Wayne, herself, and Genevieve. "Would you like to come over for some coffee?" she asks uncomfortably.
Genevieve shakes her head, still smiling with sympathy. "We couldn't dear. You need to go home and get some sleep. You've been through a rough time. Don't you think, Wayne?"
He smiles tiredly. "Maybe Genevieve is right," he says quietly. He turns to his wife. "Why don't you go wait in the car? I have some medical business to discuss with Melinda and then I will meet you."
"Ok darling," she says, giving him a peck on the cheek before she leaves. They both watch her leave the church and don't say a word until the door closes behind her.
"Melinda, I'm sorry," he begins.
She puts up a hand to stop him. "No, Wayne. It's all right. I knew you had a wife. I have no reason to be upset. She's lovely, by the way."
He shakes his head. "You don't have to say that, Melinda. Really you don't."
She shrugs and walks out the door. "I need some air," she explains absent-mindedly over her shoulder. Wayne follows her out.
