Wayne arrives at six o'clock in the evening, just as he had said he would. Melinda leads him upstairs into the bedroom she prepared. He sets his bags down on the floor and looks around.
"This is a gorgeous room; rather nautical isn't it?"
Melinda smiles and glances around the room. "Yes, I guess you could describe it as nautical. It used to belong to my parents. You're the first to use it in a very long time."
There is an awkward silence. Then, Wayne clears his throat and says, "I think I should get right to it. I'm going to hook your grandmother up to the diagnostic machines and begin observing her."
"Ok," she responds. "Are you hungry? I can bring you up a plate from dinner if you'd like..."
He smiles. "No food but a coffee would be nice."
"I already brewed a pot in anticipation," she says, grinning. "I'll bring it right up."

Wayne watches over the older woman tirelessly, hooking her up to the machines, taking her temperature, monitoring her heart rate...
Melinda finds she is drawn to her grandmother's bedroom. She sticks her head into the room every few minutes to make sure everything is ok.
Finally, Wayne turns to her, a worried expression on his face.
"Melinda... You need to stop worrying so much. Try and get some sleep, won't you? I'll need you to keep watch over your grandmother during the day."
She nods her head reluctantly. She has to admit, she is tired.
"Ok... But call me if you need anything. Promise?"
He smiles gently. "Of course, Melinda. Goodnight, and sleep well."
"Goodnight," she says, shutting the door shut behind her. She stands outside the door for a moment, her eyes closed. Then, with a deep sigh, she walks down the hall to her bedroom.
